What's at Stake
Since 2010 Wichita Center has made a huge difference for thousands of low-income children.
Wichita Center houses a dozen family support programs in a shared facility on a public bus line in a high poverty neighborhood. Being co-located means programs can collaborate to meet each child's needs, and provide easy one stop services to struggling kids.
Because the North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District [NCPRD] terminated their transitional agreement with North Clackamas Schools, programs at Wichita could face eviction by June. The best way to prevent this would be for NCPRD to sell the property to the school district at an affordable price.
Thanks to pressure from community members, four months after the school district asked about buying the property, NCPRD finally began meeting with them to discuss this. They now say they have offered North Clackamas Schools an exclusive opportunity to buy the property.
Now we need to urge them to move quickly to negotiate a deal before any programs are disrupted. Our kids can't wait!
